2005 NOVA Volunteer of the Year We, at Grandma's House of Central Oregon, are proud to
announce When Lynne comes to Grandma’s House there is always
a lineup of residents (and staff) seeking her council on the many projects
being worked on at the moment! Lynne is known as “The Sewing/Crafting
Miracle Worker” around Grandma’s House! When Lynne comes she
is always armed with a smile, a kind word and her latest sewing project,
which are as creative as they are beautiful! What Lynne shares in her
volunteer hours (and there are many!) is her incredible sewing & crafting
talents, as well as her infinite patience in guiding young hands to complete
projects of their own and celebrating their accomplishment. To give just
a few examples of service…when one of our residents was faced with
the death of her mother, Lynne spent hours helping her make a quilt that
represented the love and specialness of that relationship and the young
mother was able to give it to her mom before she passed. Another young
mother came to Lynne with her own baby blanket that she wanted to use
for her baby. The blanket was tattered and a bit stained. Lynne was so
compassionate and understanding of the need of this young mother, and
the connection of this special blanket, that she spent hours restoring
it and was done in time for the birth of the baby. And, through Lynne’s
incredible gift of sewing, she made beautiful baby blankets, bibs, changing
pads, baby buntings, potholders and Christmas ornaments. With these handmade
items Lynne was instrumental in raising over $1,700. to help support Grandma’s
House in the 2004 Kid’s Holiday Village! She has started sewing
for Kids Holiday Village 2005 already!
