A Letter From the Director

Dear Friends,

I would first like to thank Jen Wilking & Family – www.webjenesis.com - for the generous donation of this beautiful Website! And thank you ALL so much for your never failing support of the young mothers and babies of Grandma’s House! You are counted among the many blessings at Grandma’s house and your support helps make all the things done here a reality!

Because of you… in 2003 Grandma’s House provided safe housing, or respite care, for eighteen pregnant or parenting teens between the ages of 12 & 19, and two beautiful baby girls; Delleena & Lidiana. 5 babies were born: little Jeremiah was born in March; babies Rechelle & Conner were born in May, Alexiah arrived in September followed by Cynthia in December and baby Gracie chose to make her appearance on New Years day! All of our little ones were born healthy and strong. We now have 2 babies due in the spring. All of the girls participated in classes offered at Grandma’s House during their stay and are welcome to attend after moving into independent living. These classes include: Life Skills, Career Development, Teen Childbirth & After Baby Education, and Parenting classes. 41 pregnant teens from the community attended our childbirth & after baby classes. All of our pregnant & parenting teen residents and babies received weekly visits from our Visiting Nurse from the Health Department. We had one young mother choose adoption this year and one of the girls had an early high school graduation. We are looking forward to three graduations in June. Approximately 50 volunteers donated over 4,000 hours to Grandma’s House in 2003. Our volunteers donate time as house moms, tutors, mentors, organizing Grandma’s Closet, teaching the girls to sew, yard work, the list goes on and on. We are very thankful for all of them, and you; without this support Grandma’s House would not exist.

We are continuing to look forward to our much-needed addition! With financial, labor & in-kind donations along with a grant of $25,000. from the Oregon Community Foundation, we are well on our way! If you would like to help support this addition in any way please give us a call. It takes many hands to tackle and complete a project like this and your help would be very much appreciated. We will continue to keep you posted!

Thanks to the efforts of many in the community and to contributions (items, financial, time, talent) we have been able to make a positive difference in many lives since Grandma’s House opened her doors in 1992. We are the only home of its kind east of the Cascades. Thank you for helping to continue this very important mission.

Again, on behalf of all the mom’s, babies, and little people of Grandma’s House, God’s blessings to you and your family and thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely,
Ms. Woody Medeiros, Executive Director
